“Unbelievable as it may seem, it is true, and this is my story. I’m Georgetta and I’m a nurse which is quite ironic to read what happened to me. I was sick for over a month. What started out as a cold wouldn’t go away so I got worse. As per advice of my personal doctor, I had to take stronger antibiotics to finally get better. Of course, being a smoker did not help with my recovery and I hope those who read my story understand how serious it was for me to wrongly smoke while I was sick.
That night my husband and I were at home and as usual after dinner we went outside on the veranda for a smoke. I wasn’t feeling so well, and as I read about the side effects of antibiotics, which I always do, I could sense that I did not have any symptoms, but I felt strange. I knew it was nothing, just fatigue and weakness. So, I thought I’d go to our room and get the sphygmomanometer to check my blood pressure to see what I’d do. As I made the move to open the drawer to take it, everything went dark.
When I opened my eyes and came back, I was covered in blood. I hit myself so badly, by probably falling on the edge of the bed and then on the floor, that the skin was cut and hanging under my left eye. Maybe because of my work, I remained calm, but from my husband’s tone I understood that the situation was serious, and we immediately went to the hospital.
This happened on December 16, 2024 and the doctors suggested that I have surgery after 2-3 days, but the swelling I had, really worried me. That’s why I trusted Dr. Zoe Nicolaou, whom I have known for 15 years and who operated on me on January 2, 2025, in a difficult operation, but which she made easy and with great efficiency. But we weren’t done, as the doctor immediately saw that my jaw has osteoporosis and suggested monitoring me for the next six months, while assuring me that my eye would heal with no permanent damage.
I feel incredibly grateful for Dr. Zoe, as what she did and the way she did it, was not treating another patient, but being professional and supportive towards another human being. She knows how to calm you, gives you options, always tells you the truth about all procedures, however easy or difficult or painful they may be. I will always have her in my heart as my guardian angel!”
